Intermittent fasting – my little secret.

All my life I have been brought up to eat three meals a day plus supper and snacks when I was hungry.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I was told.

At high school I never much felt like breakfast which drove my mum crazy. I was hungry by 1030 so I had a sandwich then an hour later off to the dinner hall for my nutritious and healthy bowl of chips and beans. We got an ice cream van that would visit the school at lunch time so off I popped for some wham bars and irn bru bars or penny sweets covered in sugar, enough to make your eyes water. Then on the way home a lovely can of fizzy juice and packet of crisps.

So that was growing up in the 90s for me, always eating, snacking grazing on junk food.

Fast forward many years and I am living with my boyfriend. Now his way of eating is majorly different to mine. He doesn’t eat in the daytime..wtf..how does he not collapse and die. If I go past lunch time without eating I am a hangry mess ready to pass out until I get my fix of food.

So years and years of me trying to get him to eat breakfast and making him pack lunches I just give in.. and in a strop usually. Now my boyfriend doesn’t have a sit down job he is a window cleaner and the fastest around. He is up and down his ladder hundreds of times a day. He routinely gets up at 7 am every day and works till tea time..yes he eats tea. Then he is back out again at night to walk around all the work he has done during the day to get payment from his customers.

How does he do it?? On such little fuel??

So it’s only taken me 11 years of being with him to start looking into this.

To be fair it took him 9 years of being with me to become vegetarian so I feel we may be equal.

Okay so I did my research.. youtube of course..where else!! I watched endless Ted talks on the subject and found some fab people who were already doing it. Dr pompa does fasting, markus and cara brotman and lots of guests of joe rogan. These people are in peak condition.

So I had to try this for myself to find out what will happen. I am on week one so very early stages. I stop eating at 6pm and start again at 12 the following day. I hope to push it further this week as I feel amazing.

I am getting so much more done and am not constantly in the kitchen. I have eaten pretty healthy for the last ten years and have juiced and made smoothies daily for the past 5 years but am always looking at ways I can increase my energy, strength and mental focus. I think I have found the way for me, but I am not telling my boyfriend this…not yet. All these years of moaning at him for not eating will no doubt be thrown in my fave like a giant custard pie.

So for now this is my little secret and I shall see how I go over the following months.

I decided to start sending free reiki via Facebook to anyone who got in touch who needed it. I wasn’t sure at first how to send Reiki to more than one person at a time but I soon figured it out.

I think I had about 20 people for my first one, I wrote all names down had a peak at profile pics and started. I set up my room so it was nice and relaxing. I also advised everyone of my start and finish times and advised them of what they may want to do before and during the healing.

As long as you remain open to the healing you are being sent I find it flows much better. I personally feel a great deal doing distance healing, the energy in my hands is quite intense at times and the flow of energy I feel is just lovely and relaxing

Connect with the people needing healing and their surrounding areas, to whomever or wherever your awareness is attracted.

  • Connect with your own spirituality (whatever that may be).
  • You can use an object to help focus your energy if you choose; besides the cupped hands, you can use a pillow, blanked, or some other physical object.
  • Experiment with using distant healing when watching the news. Allow the loving energy to flow into the news that you are witnessing as you exhale.
  • Remember to breathe and feel the energy moving through your body.
  • Combine different techniques.

I use my reiki distance symbol and when my mind wanders I chant this symbol softly to myself over and over until my focus is stronger.

Creating Focus

Usui Sensei taught his students the first pillar of Reiki, the Gassho meditation. Gassho means “two hands coming together”. Dr. Usui taught his students to place their hands in the Gassho position every morning and evening. Gassho teaches the art of quieting the mind and creating single pointed focus in meditation.

One basically places their hands in prayer position, closes their eyes, and brings all their awareness to the tip of the fire (middle) finger. When the mind wanders, gently press the fire fingers together and refocus. This technique is detailed in “Reiki the Healing Touch”.

I begin my daily sessions with Gassho, and then I offer prayers for myself, for others and the planet. Next I send distant Reiki to all who have requested it.

Below is a sample of a 21 day reiki meditation programme

A 21-Day Reiki Meditation Program

You can use this 21-day program to learn more about Reiki, develop the ability to focus, to empower my prayers, goals and visions; and to receive answers.

Days 1-7 – Begin by creating an intention or a question. Draw the Usui power symbol in front of your body and with your hands, move the energy into your solar plexus. Breathe deeply, imagining that you are breathing in the essence of the symbol. As you exhale allow the energy to permeate every cell of your body, and expand out into your emotional body, your mental body, all the way into your spiritual body.

State your intention or ask your question. Sit quietly with this energy for 5-15 minutes. If your mind wanders, simply invoke the name of the power symbol three times and visualize it.

When you finish, acknowledge that you are holding the full light of the Reiki energy and it will be with you through your day.

Write notes about your experience in a journal. Include any thoughts, words, images or feelings that came to you.

Do this even if there seems to be no logic to it. Often Reiki and the Divine speak to us in symbols, or with pieces of a puzzle that will come together later by reflecting back on your journal.

Days 8-14 – Begin by creating an intention or a question. Draw the Usui mental and emotional symbol in front of your body and with your hands, move the energy into your heart. Breathe deeply, imagining that you are breathing in the essence of the symbol. As you exhale allow the energy to permeate every cell of your body, and expand out into your emotional body, your mental body, all the way into your spiritual body.

Imagine any unhealthy mental or emotional patterns being rewoven into healthy thought, feeling and response patterns. State your intention or ask your question. Sit quietly with this energy for 5-15 minutes.

If your mind wanders, simply invoke the name of the mental emotional symbol three times and visualize it.

When you finish, acknowledge that you are holding the full love of the Reiki energy and it will be with you through your day. Write notes about your experience in a journal.


Days 15-21 – Begin by creating an intention or a question.Draw the Usui distant healing symbol in front of your body and with your hands, move the energy into your entire body beginning by moving the energy from the crown and down through your feet.

Breathe deeply, imagining that you are breathing in the essence of the symbol. As you exhale allow the energy to permeate every cell of your body, and expand out into your energy field.State your intention or ask your question.

Take a moment to imagine or visualize the symbol taking the form of a bridge of light. This bridge reaches through time and through space. Allow the bridge of light to carry Reiki energy back in time as it permeates all levels of your consciousness and the multiple dimensions of your being.

Next allow the energy to flow forward in time creating harmonious energy in your future. Now bring the energy into the present moment.

Sit quietly with this energy for 5-15 minutes. If your mind wanders, simply invoke the name of the distant symbol three times and visualize it. When you finish, acknowledge that you are holding the timeless healing power of the Reiki energy and it will be with you through your day. Write notes about your experience in a journal.

This 21 day program is designed for those who are attuned to level two Reiki. Level I practitioners could modify it using level I energy instead of the symbols. It is possible to also extend the program for another 21 days by replacing the symbols with the three Reiki Master symbols, or with the Karuna symbols of your choice.

After practicing kundalini this week I started noticing for the last three nights I would wake at 4 am and feel like I should get up, but last night I woke every hour. I did a bedtime kundalini routine this time instead of my usual morning one. I have had the most vivid dreams each night. I practiced kundalini last year and stopped to switch to Yin yoga and pilates as I had read far too much on kundalini energy and freaked myself out. Something keeps drawing me back to this energy, I don’t want to be scared of it but this time I am going to trust in it and know that it is for my highest good. Unless of course I can’t get my sleeping pattern back, then I may have to scream (dramatic Ahhhhhhhhhhh)

My Top Tips to Reduce Anxiety

Sometimes we don’t even realise we are anxious then something hits us and all of a sudden we are in the midst of panic.  It could be in the middle of the night, we could be sound asleep then all of a sudden we are awake sweating, heart pumping fast, feeling so sick with fear and for no apparent reason.  Cortisol Levels are through the roof and leaves us feeling emotional drained and our energy levels at an all time low.

I have been there more times than I care to remember and it is the reason I am so interested in the how the brain works.  After reading many books and watching some amazing TedTalks, I put into practice ways to rewire my brain.

 

Firstly STOP thinking about Anxiety, start creating the New You.  What you focus on You get more of, so Stop thinking about how scared you feel and start practicing how you would like to feel.  I picked a few people to research, Will Smith was my first personality, he has some amazing interviews of YouTube.  So going to parties or events, I would train myself to adopt a more positive posture whilst going over how Will Smith would act, (sounds silly but really does work)

Secondly, Breathe…Yes simple but its the one thing we feel we are short of when we are feeling anxious.  Start Counting in for 4 hold and out for 4, I also try and visualise a time when I felt confident and happy and breathe in and out from my heart, breathing long and deep sends the signal straight back to help the brain relax.

 

Do core or control based movements (such as yoga, pilates, dancing, tai chi etc). Challenge yourself to fully engage your brain and focus on the activity. Make sure it involves deep core contractions, and has an element of difficulty for your balance.  recommend at least 5-10 minutes of different movements; you could add triangle or tree pose. Focus on your deep core contractions and the control of the movement. Then just switch your mind off and allow your cortex to take over.

 Go through a series of isolated muscle relaxation exercises. Focus on different groups such as your shoulders, forearms, legs etc and actively let them go. Feel the tension releasing and floating away. Again, because stress makes us tense our muscles, by actively relaxing we are sending a subconscious signal back to the brain that everything is ok.

Perform for at least 5 minutes in a comfortable environment.

It can be quite liberating to know that simply moving your body in certain ways can modulate your internal responses to emotional stress, keeping you healthy and more relaxed!th5US9INIU

The more I research into Energy Healing  the more people I discover amazing new techniques to learn and practice.  I am finding that there is a theme that seems to underly most of them.  Meditation, Forgiveness, Love and Compassion, to be aware of thoughts and emotions, breathing practices and a presence in the moment.

I do love how many of these people were scientists, quantum physicists, chiropractors, doctors.  I think I like this as it proves what I have been practicing with Reiki and also for the mainstream people who may be put of by Reiki and energy healing as they think its just for hippies and New age People…

Just for today I will not worry.

Just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing.

The Reiki principles are spiritual ideals. By adopting these precepts you will add balance and substance to your life. It is important that you realise that you are not expected to live every moment of your life within the framework of these ideals. As humans we are all imperfect, and that is why each principle begins with “Just for today.” You can without pressure or stress work on improving yourself daily. If you slip up today, you can always begin again tomorrow. The more you work with the principles, the more you will condition yourself to adopt them as a way of life.
To become more familiar with the Reiki principles it is advisable to read them aloud at least twice a day. You may wish to place a large copy of the ideals in a picture frame. Then you could position the copy in a prominent place where you are sure to see it each day, or if you are going to practise Reiki professionally, place it in your healing room. The Five Reiki principles mean different things to each one of us. Meditation will help to unlock your own perceptions.
Simply sit or lie down in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Repeat one of the ideals several times aloud using it as a mantra. As you drift into a meditative state become aware of what happening inside your mind and body. You may experience many different feelings, emotions and thoughts. If you do this exercise in a group share your experiences and write down everything that happened during the meditation. It is interesting to look at your notes on this exercise on a regular basis to see how you have grown by adopting these precepts. Repeat the exercise of meditating on each principle annually and compare notes or if in a group setting discuss the differences that have taken place.

Just For Today I Will Not Worry

Worry causes stress and anxiety leading to an imbalance of the mind body and spirit and blockage to the root chakra.
The best way to overcome worry is to accept that all of us are faced with difficulties and setbacks in our lives. How we respond to them determines how we ultimately lead our lives.
If you choose to respond negatively by getting upset and anxious towards one of life’s setbacks you have chosen to damage the balance of your mind body and spirit.
If you respond positively by accepting the setback as an opportunity to learn you can live a happier and more fulfilling life.
Allow yourself time each day to really laugh and have fun. Watch a funny movie or television show. Read a humorous book or magazine. Whatever it takes to make you laugh — do it. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Man surrounds himself with images of himself.” This wonderful pearl of wisdom teaches us that if you want to be happy mix with happy people. Likewise if you want to be negative and constantly worrying you simple need to associate with people who are negative and worrisome.

Laughter is a wonderful healer. It has been proven through numerous studies that laughter can heal and in some cases prevent life threatening illnesses. Use this knowledge to live a healthier and longer life. Take responsibility for how you deal with life’s setbacks. Have fun — life’s too short to waste it worrying.
Use Reiki to re-balance your mind body and spirit and boost your resolve. Place one hand on the root chakra and the other hand on the heart chakra. Reiki will bring your mind body and spirit into equilibrium. Keep your hands over these chakra points for as long as you intuitively feel you need to. This Reiki technique will remove the blockages caused by stress, worry and anxiety. It can be used for self healing or on another person.

Just For Today I Will Not Be Angry

Anger is an emotion. When we get angry we lose control of that emotion. In order to live by the above principle we must understand what triggers our anger and how we can choose to remove this destructive emotion from our being.
In every confrontation that leads to anger the person or thing pushing your anger button has complete power and control over you.
This simple realisation allows you to take back control of your emotions and as such you can now choose to respond to a situation in a positive way rather than react to a situation in a negative way.
Every time you meet someone there is an exchange of energy. If you are both happy and find the meeting was enjoyable then the energy exchange is neutral. However, if you lose control of your emotions and become angry, the other person steals your energy. Likewise, if someone gets angry at you then you are stealing their energy.
With this simple philosophy you can counter the endless situations or people that in the past have triggered your anger and caused you to react in an unhealthy manner. Next time someone honks their car horn at you or criticises you for no apparent reason smile and say to yourself I am not going to let you steal my energy.
Just imagine how much better you will feel when you choose not to react to negative people or situations. How many times in the past have you shouted abuse at another car driver and still felt the anger in your stomach an hour or so later. That person stole your energy. They probably drove on laughing at how silly you looked when you lost your composure. You allowed them to cause you stress, anger and probably indigestion. Only one person came out of this confrontation with their energy intact and it wasn’t you.
Anger is a choice response. Decide each day not to allow your energy to be stolen from you by negative people or situations. On a physical level anger can cause stomach and digestive disorders. Choose to live a healthier life free from anger.
Use Reiki to assist the re-balancing process. Place one hand on the third eye chakra and the other hand on the root chakra. Keep your hands there for as long as you intuitively feel is necessary. This Reiki technique will help you control and eliminate this destructive emotion. It can be used for self healing or on another person.

Just For Today I Will Do My Work Honestly

Honesty means different things to different people. Many people feel it is fine to take home a few pens from the office, the company turn over millions in profit each year so they can afford to lose a few items of stationery.
While another person will judge the same incident as an act of theft and believe that anyone found stealing stationery should be dismissed and charged with theft and even prosecuted.
Everyone at some point is dishonest. You may not steal from another person or company, but instead steal from yourself.
For example if you a have a talent to help people and you choose not to then you are stealing from yourself by denying your gift.
You are also stealing from the people who could benefit from your talents. Wasting your time on meaningless pursuits such as watching television for hours each day is stealing from your sacred and special time on Earth. Try to live your life to the best of your ability as honestly as you can. Honesty lives inside of you and doesn’t care about being placed where others can view it.
Finally, in your pursuit of a happier life I urge you to encapsulate the words from Michael Landon (the father in the television series “Little house on the Prairie”) in his last interview before he died prematurely of cancer. He urged us to “Live Every Second”.
Place one hand on the third eye chakra and the other hand on the solar plexus chakra to use Reiki to assist in the re-balancing of this principle. Keep your hands there for as long as you intuitively think they need to remain on these chakra points. This additional hand position can be used for healing yourself or other people.

Life tends to give us what we need, it may not be what we want but it will be what we need. Karmicly throughout our lives we receive what we need to grow and learn in this lifetime.
If we grasp these lessons and grow accordingly we will become spiritually enlightened. Instead of wasting your life complaining of the things that have happened to you, and the problems you face.
Step back for a moment on a regular basis and discover and appreciate the many blessings in your life.
Make a list of all your blessings. You will be amazed at how many wonderful things there are to give thanks for. Leave the materialistic things aside. They are shallow and meaningless. Pay attention to, and focus on the things that are free and bring joy and humility to your life. For example, your mind, body, spirit, health, family, friends, flowers, trees, sea, sun, love, faith, knowledge, the countryside, animals, birds, etc., the list is endless.
When you appreciate the true wonders of life and let go of the materialistic things you are bound to enjoy your life more.
Place one hand on the third eye chakra and the other hand on the occipital ridge. Use Reiki to re-balance this principle in your life or in the life of another person.

Karma is a two edge sword. Send out negative thoughts and you will get negative results. Living within this precept will give you a happier and less stressful life full joy peace and love.
To bring balance to this principle for yourself or others first place one hand on the third eye chakra and the other hand on the root chakra. When you feel you are ready, move your hand from the third eye chakra to the throat chakra, and move your hand from the root chakra to the heart chakra keeping it there until you intuitively feel you have finished.
It is important to remember that the Reiki principles are only guides for a happier and more fulfilling life. Use meditation to unlock the true meaning of these precepts and incorporate them into your life. They will tranceform your life.

Cut Thru Technique – Heart Math

I have been using the HearthMath tools for sometime now and I find them to be beneficial in regards to my emotional wellbeing.  I also bought some of their books and find their techniques really useful.

Below is the Cut – Thru technique, I found it most useful when thinking about a problem I have, then imagining my close friend having this dilemma and what advise I would give them.  I always think we are so good and advising others but never too great at taking our own advise.

Cut-Thru: Here’s a simple exercise adapted from the HeartMath Cut-Thru technique to help you achieve emotional coherence, which has been shown to improve the efficiency of the immune system.

  • Be aware of how you feel about an issue at hand.
  • Breathe a positive feeling or attitude.
  • Be objective, as if the issue or problem is someone else’s.
  • Rest peacefully in this neutral state, allowing your heart intelligence new perspectives and possibilities.
  • Soak and relax all resistances and disturbing or perplexing feelings in your heart’s compassion.
  • Ask for guidance, then be patient and receptive. While awaiting an answer from the heart find something or someone to genuinely appreciate.
