On a Mission to Minimise – Thanks to Intermittent Fasting

Since I started intermittent fasting a few weeks ago, never did I imagine all the energy I would gain, not only energy but motivation to get moving on my goals and, well life in general.  So, I stop eating at 6pm, sleep by about 11 and up at 530am for my morning meditation and yoga.  Forget breakfast completely which was mega strange at first as I loved a giant smoothie about 9 ish.  Then 12 comes along and that was my normal hour for lunch, but I am just far too busy decluttering, cleaning and general odd jobbing it.  I time my lunch this week to fit in with my 30 minutes of TV for the day.   I just can’t miss Home and Away, a great Australian Soap.  So, I have a massive salad with all my favourite things and each day I add something different.

Okay so my mission this week is to minimise my life, I have been on this mission on and off for about a year now.  On a good day I load up my car with clothes and off to my friends and sisters house to deliver.  The bad days, I have nothing to wear and am told by my loving sister that I am always in black and look bla….queue running to the shops for a bright orange top only to bring it home to discover I DON’T SUIT BLOODY ORANGE, so another trip to my friends to deliver her new top.

This week however is a good week for me, I have stuck to all my daily disciplines which makes me feel amazing, I have spent a good 10 hours decluttering my home and now for the dreaded loft.  I know this will take me some time as I am 38 years old and still have my diaries, drawings and birthday cards from day dot.  It is funny what we become attached to in life but I am on my journey to become less attached and more present in the moment.

 

WHY? What is so great about having less stuff?

  • I have more money to experience more things
  • I have more time to do things I enjoy and discover new things that I may or may not be good at – So far interior design, glitter glue guns and refurbishing old furniture – Not very good at any but I had fun finding that out.
  • For me, I don’t wanna spend half an hour searching through junk drawers for a pair of scissors..gaaahhhhh…
  • Yes, it is true a clear and decluttered house gives you a much clearer mind

 

In my twenties I travelled about and had only one suitcase to my name, I lived each day at a time, my only worry back then was if I had enough money for a beer (actually it was more vodka red bull but I just thought beer sounded more cool)

Then I settled down and started a family and responsibility hit in, even the word responsibility makes me shudder.  With that I fell into the trap of STUFF and kids like STUFF.  I always felt like I was behind everyone else as they had their jobs, their mortgages and kids etc and because I was away travelling my Life started later? Isnt it funny how we say that – my life started..like we haven’t been living till then…weird.

Things just never seemed quite right though for me, I don’t really care about money, clothes houses cars and stuff and I think since I stumbled upon mindfulness after some horrible health conditions that I really began to take stock of my life.

So I shall keep going on my inner journey to improve myself and what I see in my outer world shall reflect this.  A nice Clear calm environment to go with my new improved calmer mind.

This month I am grateful for discovering intermittent fasting as it has given me a new lease on life and is helping me to achieve my daily goals of remaining.

Dr Pompa is big on fasting – I myself haven’t managed to fast yet but the intermittent fasting is much easier for me at the moment, not to say I wont get up to a fast eventually.

Basically the benefit of intermittent fasting more so comes from the secretion of human growth hormone. I wanna focus this video mostly on that HGH secretion because that is such a big component.

There are a multitude of different reasons why intermittent fasting is great, and why it’s great to do from TIME TO TIME.

Okay so now onto Minimalist – Well I watched the documentary Minamalism and I follow these two guys on their podcasts and youtube videos

Intermittent fasting – my little secret.

All my life I have been brought up to eat three meals a day plus supper and snacks when I was hungry.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I was told.

At high school I never much felt like breakfast which drove my mum crazy. I was hungry by 1030 so I had a sandwich then an hour later off to the dinner hall for my nutritious and healthy bowl of chips and beans. We got an ice cream van that would visit the school at lunch time so off I popped for some wham bars and irn bru bars or penny sweets covered in sugar, enough to make your eyes water. Then on the way home a lovely can of fizzy juice and packet of crisps.

So that was growing up in the 90s for me, always eating, snacking grazing on junk food.

Fast forward many years and I am living with my boyfriend. Now his way of eating is majorly different to mine. He doesn’t eat in the daytime..wtf..how does he not collapse and die. If I go past lunch time without eating I am a hangry mess ready to pass out until I get my fix of food.

So years and years of me trying to get him to eat breakfast and making him pack lunches I just give in.. and in a strop usually. Now my boyfriend doesn’t have a sit down job he is a window cleaner and the fastest around. He is up and down his ladder hundreds of times a day. He routinely gets up at 7 am every day and works till tea time..yes he eats tea. Then he is back out again at night to walk around all the work he has done during the day to get payment from his customers.

How does he do it?? On such little fuel??

So it’s only taken me 11 years of being with him to start looking into this.

To be fair it took him 9 years of being with me to become vegetarian so I feel we may be equal.

Okay so I did my research.. youtube of course..where else!! I watched endless Ted talks on the subject and found some fab people who were already doing it. Dr pompa does fasting, markus and cara brotman and lots of guests of joe rogan. These people are in peak condition.

So I had to try this for myself to find out what will happen. I am on week one so very early stages. I stop eating at 6pm and start again at 12 the following day. I hope to push it further this week as I feel amazing.

I am getting so much more done and am not constantly in the kitchen. I have eaten pretty healthy for the last ten years and have juiced and made smoothies daily for the past 5 years but am always looking at ways I can increase my energy, strength and mental focus. I think I have found the way for me, but I am not telling my boyfriend this…not yet. All these years of moaning at him for not eating will no doubt be thrown in my fave like a giant custard pie.

So for now this is my little secret and I shall see how I go over the following months.
